So we consider ourselves "quasi" in the bourbon space, and like to have fun during our meetings. So what's more fun than having a bourbon battle?!

Today's "Battle of the Bourbons" are two premium Heaven Hill offerings.  The contenders are:

1) Heaven Hill Private Stock - 2014 edition - 124 proof - 12 years old

2) William Heaven Hill - 103 proof - 16 years old

We had three participants for the taste test. Each participant rated nose, flavor and finish on a scale of 1-5, so with three participants, each category had a max score of 15 points.  Below is a summary

  William Heaven Hill Private Stock
Nose 10 7
Flavor 11 9
Finish 10 8
Total 31 24

As you can see, the Heaven Hill handily beat the Private Stock.  This is a little surprising, since both are high-end, premium bourbons, but the consensus on the Private Stock is that it was very "hot"....I guess that is not surprising considering the fact that it is 124 proof!

I hope you enjoyed the Battle of the Bourbons and we will be doing these on a weekly basis, so if you have some ideas / bourbons you would like us to test, shoot us an email to and we will see what we can do!
